Our job in the backswing is to create space for us to swing the club into when we are making our transition and coming back down to impact. We create space by rotating our hips and chest in the backswing.
More turn will help reduce any lateral shifting to the right and create some depth in your position at the top.
Depth is a key component to allow a more in to out path because you’ve already aligned the club to more from the inside. Create Space and swing into it!
The Face to Path relationship is the reason your golf ball curves in the air the way it does. With a slice, your club is moving too much out to in through impact whilst the face is pointed too far to the right in comparison to this out to in path.
Simply, to get rid of your slice we need to get the face of the golf club in a more closed position at impact. Like with anything in the golf swing, the time we want to close the face is not just before impact, this is TOO LATE.
Grab a tennis racket, grip it like a golf club with the face of the racket pointing forwards- your job during this drill is to keep the face of that racket pointing down during the first part of your swing and up during in the top of backswing position. Getting the face square earlier will force you to start swinging less over the top.
Take a look at your lead hand grip (Left hand for Right handed golfers), if the V created between your thumb and first finger is pointed straight up and down we need to strengthen your grip. We do this by simply by rotating your left hand over to the right on the grip so that that V now points more towards our right shoulder at set up.
